All-Star basketball player Brittney Sykes transferred to the Mystics in a high-profile trade with the Storm.
Brittney Sykes Shines in Seattle: WNBA All-Star Guard Bolsters Storm's Roster
Brittney Sykes, a seasoned WNBA player renowned for her scoring, playmaking, and defensive prowess, has joined the Seattle Storm in a trade with the Washington Mystics. The move comes as the Storm aim to bolster their roster and secure a stronger playoff position.
Sykes, wearing jersey number 20, has had an exceptional 2025 season, averaging approximately 15.4 points, 4.4 assists, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game. This marks her first WNBA All-Star appearance and solidifies her status as an All-Star calibre guard.
Sykes's career in the WNBA spans nine years, and she has consistently demonstrated her versatility as a guard across multiple teams, including the Washington Mystics, Los Angeles Sparks, and overseas clubs. Her global experiences during WNBA off-seasons have contributed to her development as a formidable player.
Sykes's trade to Seattle marks a significant milestone in her career, highlighting her value as a top player in the league. The move follows a series of impressive achievements, including being named a four-time WNBA All-Defensive Team selection, with two First Team honours (2021, 2023) and two Second Team honours (2020, 2022).
In the same trade, the Mystics acquired Alysha Clark, a three-time WNBA Champion, and veteran forward, as well as guard Zia Cooke. Cooke offers scoring upside and outside shooting, having hit a career-best 38.2% from three this season. Clark, known for her defensive toughness, leadership, and clutch shooting, averaged 3.5 points in 18 minutes per game this season.
The Mystics now hold three first-round selections in the 2026 draft, thanks to the trade. Meanwhile, the Storm waived Zia Cooke and Sika Koné after the trade.
Alysha Clark, a Seattle native, played 300 games in the city across two stints, ranking fifth in games played in team history. Clark's departure leaves a significant void in the team's lineup, but her contributions to the Storm's success over the years will not be forgotten.
Sykes, on the other hand, is eager to make her mark in Seattle and help the team achieve its playoff goals. With her impressive skills and dedication to the game, fans can expect Sykes to be a difference-maker on both ends of the floor for the Storm.
