**Apple Introduces Spatial Audio for a More Immersive Listening Experience**
Apple has announced the launch of its new spatial audio format, Apple Spatial Audio (ASAF), designed to offer a more advanced and realistic 3D sound experience. This innovative technology was unveiled at WWDC 2025 and is compatible with iOS, macOS, tvOS, and the upcoming visionOS for Apple Vision Pro[1][2].
### What is Apple Spatial Audio?
ASAF is a spatial audio format that focuses on positioning sounds as 3D objects in space, allowing precise placement of individual audio elements rather than just channel-based panning[4]. Key features of ASAF include real-time head tracking, the use of Apple Positional Audio Codec (APAC) for encoding and delivering audio content, and support for a "truly immersive audio experience" that goes beyond what Dolby Atmos offers[2].
### How it compares with Dolby Atmos
While both Apple Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos provide immersive audio, ASAF advances Dolby Atmos by incorporating real-time head tracking and finer spatial placement of objects, especially on Vision Pro[1][2][3]. Dolby Atmos, on the other hand, is widely supported on many platforms, including home theaters, cinemas, and mobile devices[3].
### Oasis Albums Now Available in Spatial Audio
After an 18-month conversion process, Oasis' entire back catalogue is now available on Apple Music in Spatial Audio. This includes Definitely Maybe (1994), (What's The Story) Morning Glory? (1995), Be Here Now (1997), The Masterplan (1998), Standing On the Shoulder Of Giants (2000), Familiar To Millions (Live) (2000), Heathen Chemistry (2002), Don't Believe the Truth (2005), Stop The Clocks (2006), Dig Out Your Soul (2008), Time Flies...(1994 - 2009) (2010), Oasis Knebworth 1996 (Live) (2021), and more[2].
Grammy award-winning producer Ryan Hewitt, who oversaw the conversion process, stated that honoring the original mixes and the original intention of the sound of these records was one of the greatest challenges of his career[1]. Despite the challenges, the converted albums now sound even bigger while maintaining the original spirit of the recordings.
This is the first time that the other Oasis albums, including (What's The Story) Morning Glory? and Be Here Now, are available in Spatial Audio.
