All Blacks' Coach Spoke Before Match Against Pumas, Revealing His Most Surprising Experience During Visit to Bombonera
The 2025 Rugby Championship: A Competitive Showdown Awaits
The 2025 Rugby Championship is set to be a thrilling spectacle, with four southern hemisphere powerhouses vying for supremacy. Originating in 1996 as the Tri Nations (Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa), the tournament expanded in 2012 to include Argentina, renaming it the Rugby Championship.
This year's edition, running from mid-August to early October, will be the fourteenth in the current four-nation format. Each team will play the others twice, mostly in home-and-away matches. However, the Bledisloes Cup matches (Australia vs New Zealand) and South Africa vs Argentina matches in the final two weekends will be played home and away.
Notable fixtures include a match at Twickenham Stadium in London in the final round, marking the second time a Rugby Championship match has taken place there. This edition is significant as it will be the last annual tournament before the competition transitions to a biennial schedule with the launch of the new Nations Championship thereafter.
South Africa, the current defending champions, and New Zealand, with 20 titles to their name, will be the teams to watch. Argentina, who have shown their mettle by defeating the All Blacks in 2020, 2022, and 2023, will also be a force to reckon with.
The All Blacks, led by Scott Robertson, have been making waves, with Robertson and his squad recently visiting La Bombonera to watch the 1-1 against Racing. Robertson spoke highly of the Argentine team, praising their ability to create opportunities, their experience, passion, speed, and danger.
Meanwhile, Felipe Contepomi and the other coaches will use the matches to draw their first conclusions for the composition of their respective teams for the 2027 World Cup. The tournament will kick off with Los Pumas hosting the All Blacks on Saturday at 18:10 at the Mario Alberto Kempes Stadium in Córdoba.
Later, the Springboks and Wallabies will face off at Cape Town Stadium, adding another layer of excitement to this year's Rugby Championship. This tournament promises to be a fierce competition among these southern hemisphere rugby powerhouses, marking a key transition point in the tournament’s future scheduling.
