Aliyev suggests nominating Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize recognition
In a significant development, leaders from Azerbaijan, the U.S., and Armenia gathered for a trilateral meeting where they signed several documents, including the Zangezur Corridor agreement. However, no details were provided about the contents of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by Azerbaijan and the U.S.
During the meeting, President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan proposed jointly nominating U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. Aliyev expressed his belief that Trump deserves the accolade for concluding a lengthy negotiation process in a short time. It's important to note that there is no verified information or credible report that Trump has been jointly nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
The Zangezur Corridor agreement, one of the documents signed during the meeting, transfers the corridor to the U.S. for 99 years and names it the "Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity." The corridor is intended to facilitate the movement of people and goods between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
In a positive gesture, Trump stated that Armenia and Azerbaijan have agreed to restore diplomatic relations and permanently cease all military actions. The peace agreement also includes provisions for the parties to conduct delimitation and demarcation of their borders, commit to recognise each other's territorial integrity, and inviolability of borders, and establish diplomatic relations.
The meeting resulted in Azerbaijan and the U.S. signing a Memorandum of Understanding to develop a Charter on Strategic Partnership between the governments of the two countries. Yerevan, on the other hand, signed an exclusive agreement with Washington on the Zangezur Corridor.
It's worth mentioning that in March of this year, Yerevan and Baku agreed on the text of a bilateral peace agreement, but it was not signed. The recently signed documents mark a significant step forward in the peace process between the two countries.
