Roamin' Reality Star Shakes Up "Dahoam is Dahoam" as an Academic Outsider

Ever the television trailblazer, Desiree Nick (68), no stranger to stirring the pot on shows like "Promis unter Palmen" and "Promi Big Brother", is making her mark in the bucolic German village of Lansing. From June 2nd, the effervescent TV personality will grace our screens in six episodes of the popular BR series, "Dahoam is Dahoam". As retired couples therapist Dr. Barbara Hulsmann, Desiree is there to keep a watchful eye on her on-screen daughter Vera (Sybille Waury, 55) and the local innkeeper Gregor (Holger Matthias Wilhelm, 48), who may become her son-in-law.

In a tête-à-tête with spot on news, Desiree gleefully discusses her role: "I'm absolutely humored that as Desiree Nick, I've been seamlessly woven into this family-friendly format in the countryside." This new role is a longtime dream of hers, and she hopes it won't just be a fleeting appearance in Lansing.

TV Diva, But Make It Artful

Diving into the heart of "Dahoam is Dahoam", Desiree shares her experiences: "It was an utter delight for me. And it shows that if you hunger for something for 30 years, it might still find its way to you - as long as you keep persevering. They could've picked me for such series 30 years ago. So, this production taking a fresh, almost overdue approach, is nothing short of spectacular. I'm particularly chuffed to be edging into this family-friendly format in a picturesque setting."

The New Sheriff in Town

Is Desiree the wild card that Lansing needs? "Indeed, that's the humor in it, an alien disrupting the harmony. It'd have been simple to cast me as a flashy Berlinite. But the writers steered clear of the easy path. I embody an academic from Hannover who practices couple's therapy, so I'm something of an anomaly across the board. There's no one else quite like me in this series. I'm pretty much an extraterrestrial."

Who's Crazy Around Here?

"My on-screen daughter, Veronica, who's with the innkeeper, Gregor. That's the main storyline. Every mother expects to know who her daughter's marrying. Veronica's no spring chicken, and I'd love to be a grandmother. So, I'm rooting for the social dynamics to shake out."

The irony wouldn't be lost on Nick: "Indeed, life can be as nutty as the premise. I don't choose it all. I can only play the roles I'm offered, and I've already had a theater piece in Hamburg for over a year, where I play a remarkably similar character. She's a psychology professor, of all things."

Analyzing Emotions in "Dahoam is Dahoam"?

"Precisely, I employ technical terms, spewing psychology babble at my scene partners. It requires a profound understanding to discourse coherently."

A Long-Term Lansing Commitment?

"I see a reunion in Lansing? I'd be tickled pink about that, but it's outside of my control. But with this role, it's definitely a possibility. After all, even if a daughter wants to tie the knot, the mother can still stick her nose in."

Will Dr. Hulsmann Park Her Stetson Permanently?

"It'd be lovely, but I must be cautious. I desire to see how the audience responds to me first, before indulging in illusions of a long-term future in Lansing."

Transitions: From Hamburg to Munich, to Lansing

"I'm no stranger to nomadic life, being a thespian and all. I've worked everywhere in Germany, and I've been on tour my whole life."

♪ Desiree Nick, known for her celebrity status in the entertainment world, expressed her excitement about her new role as Dr. Barbara Hulsmann on "Dahoam is Dahoam", saying, "I'm absolutely humored that as Desiree Nick, I've been seamlessly woven into this family-friendly format in the countryside."

The eclectic TV persona, who is no stranger to playing intriguing characters, added, "I'm particularly chuffed to be edging into this family-friendly format in a picturesque setting, showcasing that even celebrities have dreams to be a part of it."
