Dive into the Kyffhäuser Region: A Splashing Good Time

Get ready to dive into the magical, miraculous world of the Kyffhäuser region, as we recount the story of a most unusual pool opening day. Peter Keßler, from Bad Frankenhausen, takes us on a journey to the charming natural swimming pool in Heldrungen, where heavenly blessings were the order of the day.

The natural swimming pool Heldrungen was on the brink of an extraordinary event, as unforeseen storms, hail, and freezing cold temperatures loomed. Just 30 minutes before the big day, the ominous clouds parted, revealing a clear, blue sky. Maik Balthasar, chairman of the Förderverein Naturschwimmbad Heldrungen, and the beloved Onion Princess Mandy, inaugurated the new bathing season.

Over 100 members of the association, along with a multitude of enthusiastic visitors, were treated to a celebration that would make the gods jealous. Admission was gratis, and the feast boasted an astounding 200-meter-long cake table. The Heldrunger fire brigade showcased their grilling talents, while the Radler-Teffs offered an abundance of refreshing beverages.

A Special Thanks from Lions Club Bad Frankenhausen

The celebration kicked off with a heartfelt acknowledgement from the Lions Club Bad Frankenhausen. They generously contributed 500 euros to the association, in recognition of their tireless commitment. Maik Balthasar expressed his gratitude, praising not only the generous donation but also the recognition from the Lions Club.

As the time neared for the main attraction, the pool's water quality testing under heavy usage, there was a palpable sense of excitement in the air. The 2nd butt-bombing championship was anxiously anticipated, with showers, sunburn, and adrenaline-pumping leaps awaiting the brave participants.

High Flying Festivities

In the under-12 category, 6 little champions bravely took the plunge. Max Seibert took home the gold with a awe-inspiring mandate jump and an impressive showcase. Contender Connor Mauf narrowly missed the title, his efficient Kür jump earning applause from the spectators.

Men aged 30 and above took to the air with Bastian Exner aiming for the trophy. Despite the hinderance of a beer can ensemble, Bastian delivered an impressive, pirouetting leap worth an additional point. Denny Ericke came in a close second after a solid performance in the mandatory jump, but failed to secure the title with a less than perfect catheadstand.

As the awards ceremony approached, the dreamlike visit from celestial beings became a reality. The infamous Olsen Gang—legendary Danish pranksters—made their appearance, much to the surprise and excitement of the crowd. Staged as the authors of the Green Vault break-in, they had returned to Earth to carry out their grandest heist: the unification of Denmark and the Kyffhäuser region!

For the next two hours, the visitors held their breath in anticipation of the Olsen Gang's next move. But once the danger was safely past, everyone was once again free to enjoy the delights of food, drink, and rowdy laughter. Even Peter, usually protective of the natural swimming pool, felt at ease, as the sky turned a dark shade reminiscent of the entire Kyffhäuser region.

A mystical aura envelops the lake, a sense of magic that seems to touch everyone who's ever basked in a Heldrungen sunset from the highest 5-meter-tower in the world.
