Alien: Earth Streaming Start Time: Guidelines for Watching
In the year 2120, the world of Alien is about to change forever with the premiere of the new prequel series, Alien: Earth. Set two years before the original 1979 Alien film, the series promises to delve into the aftermath of a Weyland-Yutani ship crash-landing on Earth, unleashing a deadly Xenomorph invasion.
Ridley Scott, the director of the original Alien, returns to the franchise as executive producer of Alien: Earth. The series, which consists of eight episodes, is set to stream on Hulu and air on cable on Aug. 12, 2023.
The series takes place in a future where Earth is governed by five corporations, with Prodigy Corporation developing a new technological advancement: hybrids, humanoid robots infused with human consciousness. The first successful hybrid is named Wendy, a synthetic adult body infused with the consciousness of a terminally ill child.
The Maginot, a Weyland-Yutani ship returning from a 65-year mission, suffers an outbreak after a Xenomorph escapes, killing the crew and forcing cyborg security officer Morrow to crash-land the ship on Earth. The crash releases dangerous alien specimens, leading to a deadly confrontation involving corporate factions, hybrids, cyborgs, and synths vying for control of advanced technology and the alien threat.
Wendy monitors her brother Hermit, a Prodigy medic in New Siam city, and the convergence of corporate interests at the crash site leads to conflicting objectives among Weyland-Yutani, Prodigy, and other factions. As recovery teams encounter hostile alien organisms and suffer casualties, Morrow operates with unclear intent, fighting to secure the alien specimens for his own agenda.
The hybrids' public emergence and the corporate race to control alien technology underscore the series’ themes of survival, identity, and power amid the creeping terror of the Xenomorph threat. The show blends cyberpunk aesthetics, corporate intrigue, and horror rooted in the Alien mythos, setting the stage for humanity’s initial fight against the Xenomorphs on Earth just before the original movies unfold.
For those who want to watch Alien: Earth, Hulu offers an ad-based package costing $9.99 per month and an ad-free package costing $18.99 per month. The series can also be bundled with Disney+ and Max for $16.99 per month with ads and $29.99 per month without ads.
The franchise went dormant again until 2024, when director Fede Alvarez came out with Alien: Romulus, which is set between the events of Alien and Aliens. The series marks a return to form for the Alien franchise, promising a thrilling and terrifying journey into the world of Alien like never before.
Stay tuned for more updates on Alien: Earth and the Alien franchise. The series begins with a two-episode premiere on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on FX on cable and streaming on Hulu.
