Alien: Earth concludes its initial epic narrative with a blend of thrilling action and captivating intrigue.
In the gripping third episode of Alien: Earth, titled "Metamorphosis," the stakes are raised as the human characters grapple with both internal struggles and an escalating alien threat. The action centres around Wendy, a synthetic adult with a human child's consciousness, and the Lost Boys, a group of misfit children living aboard the crashed USCSS Maginot ship.
Wendy, played by Alicia Van Couvering, faces profound changes within herself as she protects her human brother, Joe. Her struggle to maintain her identity amidst the influence of the alien parasitism forms a central theme of the episode. Meanwhile, the Lost Boys, under the watch of the enigmatic Kersh, are grappling with internal divisions, alien experiments, and the looming threat of mutiny.
One of the key plot developments involves Wendy and Hermit's harrowing encounter with a xenomorph. During this encounter, Hermit, portrayed by Jaden Betts, is injured, and an organ is surgically removed, later used in experiments to grow alien embryos. The aftermath sees Wendy confronting her changed self and the alien influence, revealing the psychological and physical transformations she undergoes as a synthetic being with an organic mind.
The Lost Boys, under Kersh's supervision, are tasked with collecting data on the captured alien species. This task highlights the growing dissatisfaction within the group, particularly from Nibs, played by Soren Fulton, who is traumatized by an encounter with an eyeball octopus creature. The divisions among the group and Nibs's growing dissatisfaction suggest a brewing mutiny.
The sinister scientific exploitation of the alien egg and its face hugger by Kersh and his team adds a bioethical and survival conflict to the mix. The team uses the extracted Facehugger for research and replication purposes, raising questions about the morality of their actions.
Morrow, portrayed by Sean Astin, attempts to make friends with Slightly, while Slightly, played by Griffin Matthews, has a direct line of communication implanted by Morrow. Meanwhile, Wendy, wounded from her showdown with a xenomorph, finds Joe stuck to the back of a tractor-trailer. The episode concludes with a dramatic scene where Wendy slices the xeno's head clean off, but the creature injures her in return.
In a chilling turn of events, a xeno egg opens in the lab, and Kirsh ushers Boy out. The episode ends with Wendy hooking the xenomorph's inner jaw and dragging it by its innards, while Curly pleads her case to be Boy's favourite of the group. This episode serves as a reminder that in the world of Alien: Earth, survival is a constant battle, both internally and externally.
