Alexis Magner Returns to Europe with Ambitions High

After a challenging period away from the peloton, Alexis Magner is making a comeback to European cycling with renewed determination and a clear goal in mind. The American cyclist, who has previously raced six seasons with Canyon-SRAM, is now signed with Cynisca Cycling for the next season. However, her sights are set on returning to the WorldTour.

Magner's motivation to return to Europe is twofold. Firstly, she aims to reach her previous level of performance and compete at the WorldTour level. Secondly, she wants to pass on her knowledge and experience to the younger generation of riders. With her time in the peloton limited, Magner is keen to ensure she leaves a lasting impact on the sport.

Magner's previous experience in the WorldTour is a valuable asset to the younger riders she aims to mentor. In 2018, she won the Drentse Acht van Westerveld and came second in both Omloop het Nieuwsblad and the Ronde van Drenthe. These achievements demonstrate her competitive spirit and her ability to perform at the highest level.

However, Magner's road to recovery has not been easy. In 2021, she was involved in a crash during stage 4 of the Baloise Ladies Tour. The crash resulted in several injuries, including a collapsed lung, broken ribs, multiple fractures in her left scapula, and a broken sternum. Despite these setbacks, Magner's contract signing with EF Education-Oatly provided the motivation she needed to recover and return to racing.

Magner finds it exciting to be a supportive teammate to the talented riders on EF Education-Oatly, a team that is almost certain to jump to the WorldTour. She is aware of the challenge to be at the pointy end of the race and competitive at the WorldTour level, but she is determined to give her best in every race.

Unfortunately, Cynisca Cycling, Magner's current team, is struggling to find funding for the coming season. This adds an extra layer of complexity to Magner's return to Europe, but she remains optimistic and focused on her goals.

In the meantime, Magner has stepped back to racing the domestic circuit with L39ION of Los Angeles until the current season. Despite the challenges she has faced, Magner's passion for cycling and her desire to mentor the next generation of riders remain undiminished. Charlotte Kool (Picnic-PostNL) and Fien Van Eynde (Fenix-Deceuninck) were also involved in the crash that sidelined Magner, but they too have shown resilience and determination in their return to racing.

Magner's story is one of determination, resilience, and a deep love for the sport of cycling. As she returns to Europe with the goal of being a competitive rider at the WorldTour level, we wish her the best of luck in her endeavours.
