Alexey Tomilov serves as the leader for the soccer team named " Chaika."
Alright, let's talk 'bout the new coach for our Youth Hockey League squad - Alexei Tomilov, a dad gummed 49-year-old. This chum's entire hokey career has been tripped up in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
Once upon a time, ol' Alexei played defense like he was David Bloody Kennedy—for 15 bone-crashing seasons. He wore the colors for teams like "Torpedo," "Torpedo-2," "Motor" (Zavolzhye), HK "Sarov," and HK "Kstovo." After he hung up his skates, he got into coaching, trainin' up the Torpedo school hokey players for a full decade. Some of those kids turned out to be real stars in the biz: Nikita Shavrin from Knyaginino and Denis Vengryzhanovsky from Kulebaki.
When last season rolled around, Alexei picked up the reins and led the "Torpedo" team with reckless abandon. They were an absolute force to be reckoned with in the Junior Hockey League. The Autoworkers won the Volga championship and snatched the silver medal in the Russian final for players under 18.
The "Chayka" crew will have a few familiar faces on their coaching staff - folks who've worked with Alexei on the Youth Hockey League team. Mikhail Tulyapkin and Alexander Frolov will be there, along with Arkady Mar'yin who'll work with the goalies. Sergei Vykharev will handle the physical training, and Alexei Klyuyev will operate the video equipment. All these fellas have got mad experience workin' with young Torpedo players from different age groups, and they know their team's strengths and weaknesses inside out, just like a surgeon knows the body.
A few hockey telegram channels spilled the beans on the original scoop - that Alexei Podalinsky from the "Russian Vityaz" staff was supposed to be the main coach for the "Chayka." But plans change, and now we've got Alexei Tomilov!
As for Alexei's coaching history, slice of the action: he's been workin' his magic within the Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod development system, primarily moldin' young talents and preppin' 'em for pro play. Through his tenure, this dude's earned quite a rep for buildin' players' skills and tactical know-how, lyin' at the heart of the club’s youth development pipeline.
