Alexander Zverev stands alone as German tennis struggles in Miami
German tennis players have struggled at the Miami Masters 1000, with most exiting early in the tournament. Only Alexander Zverev remains in the draw after a series of defeats in both the men's and women's singles. The event has seen little success for the German contingent so far this season.
Daniel Altmaier became the latest German player to fall, losing 4-6, 2-6 to Terence Atmane in the first round. This defeat extends his winless streak in 2026, marking his eighth tournament without a victory. His exit leaves Zverev as the only German still competing.
Jan-Lennard Struff and Yannick Hanfmann also failed to progress in the men's singles. On the women's side, Ella Seidel, Eva Lys, and Tatjana Maria were knocked out in the opening round. Laura Siegemund fought hard but lost in the second round after a tough match. Zverev, however, advanced without playing after receiving a first-round bye. He will now take on Martin Damm in the second round. Earlier this season, he reached the semifinals at Indian Wells, making him the only German to reach the quarterfinals or better at a Masters 1000 event in 2026.
With Zverev as the last German standing, the focus now shifts to his upcoming match. The rest of the German players will look to regroup after disappointing results in Miami. Their early exits highlight the challenges they face in the current season.
