Alex Ovechkin hosts eighth annual hockey clinic for ASHA players
Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin recently hosted a hockey clinic for around 50 players from the American Special Hockey Association (ASHA). The event took place at the team’s practice facility, marking the eighth consecutive year of his involvement. Ovechkin, who became the Capitals’ all-time leading goal scorer last season, has been a long-time supporter of the organisation since 2014.
The clinic brought together six ASHA teams: the Washington Ice Dogs, NOVA Cool Cats, Montgomery Cheetahs, Frederick Gargoyles, Richmond Retrievers, and Hershey Heroes. Unlike previous sessions, this year’s event focused more on scrimmages than drills, giving participants extra time to play alongside Ovechkin. He was joined on the ice by Capitals forwards Justin Sourdif, Ethen Frank, and Hendrix Lapierre.
The event was the latest in a long line of initiatives led by Ovechkin to support ASHA. His hands-on approach and dedication have helped grow the sport for players with disabilities. The clinic once again highlighted his impact both on and off the ice.
