Alex Cora reveals Alex Bregman's estimated recovery period
Alex Bregman's Red Sox Return Delayed Until After All-Star Break
Yep, the Red Sox's star third baseman, Alex Bregman, ain't gonna be back in the lineup as soon as we all hoped. Earlier this month, the team was stoked about Bregman returning in early July after landing on the 10-day injured list with a quad strain back on May 23. But it wouldn't be the Red Sox without a curveball, huh? Bregman's recovery isn't progressing as swiftly as we'd like, it seems.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora spilled the beans to reporters, saying Bregman will probably be on the sidelines until after the All-Star Game. That puts his earliest possible return on July 18, 2025, if Cora's latest assessment is on the money.
After spendin' nine seasons with the Houston Astros, Bregman joined the Red Sox on a swanky three-year, $120 million contract in free agency in 2025. He was absolutely killin' it in Boston, slashin' .299/.385/.553 with 11 home runs, 35 RBI, 32 runs scored, a 159 OPS+, and 2.9 bWAR in 51 games. But then he tweaked his right quad durin' a game against the Baltimore Orioles, ain't nothin' to sneeze at.
Bregman had initially been confident about the injury, thinkin' he could dodge a trip to the injured list. Unfortunately, he had to swallow his pride and take a seat. Bregman's been a reliable player throughout his career, playin' at least 145 games in six of seven full seasons – unless we're countin' his rookie year, the COVID-shortened 2020 season, or the current campaign. However, he did miss more than two months back in 2021 with a left quad strain.
Though Bregman's absence is a bummer, the Red Sox went on a tear in June, winin' ten games in a row over a twelve-game stretch. They even took five out of six games against the New York Yankees, movin' from 8.5 games behind 'em in the AL East to just four games outta first place after the hot streak.
But their winning ways came to a sudden halt when they faced off against the San Francisco Giants just days after ridin' themselves of disgruntled All-Star Rafael Devers[3]. The Red Sox have since lost four straight, slippin' back below .500 and six games behind in the division[4]. Here's hopin' Bregman's return will help shift their luck around!

Baseball fans might have been disappointed to hear that Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman's recovery from a quad strain is slower than expected, causing him to miss the MLB All-Star Game and potentially delaying his return until after the break. Despite Bregman's absence, his team managed to win ten games in a row back in June, although their winning streak recently came to an end following a four-game losing skid.
