Münster Local Elections 2025: Voter Notification and Key Details

Local elections are set to take place in Münster, Germany, on September 14, 2025. Approximately 251,000 citizens are invited to participate in these elections, with eligible voters receiving their voting notifications by no later than August 24.

Voter Notification

In a change from previous elections, the voter notification for the 2025 local elections will be sent as a letter instead of a card, starting on August 19. The letter will contain vital information such as the polling station location and voting times.

Central Election Office

The central election office, located at Stadthaus 1 (Klemensstraße 10), will open on August 19 and will be accessible to the public from Monday to Friday, 8 am to 6 pm, and on Saturdays, 8 am to 4 pm. The office will close on the last opening day, Friday, September 12, at 3 pm.

Additional Elections

Alongside the local election, the election to the Integrations Council will also take place on September 14. Around 60,000 people with a migration background are eligible to vote and will receive a separate notification. Postal voting is also possible for this election.

Postal Voting

Online postal voting applications are possible on the municipal website until Tuesday, September 9, at 8 am. Eligible voters who do not wish to vote in person can apply for a postal vote using the notification letter. A valid personal ID or passport is required, as well as the completed voting notification letter, if possible. Postal voting documents for a possible runoff can already be applied for now.

Runoff Election

If no candidate reaches the absolute majority in the mayoral election, a runoff will take place on September 28. However, no new voting notification will be sent for the runoff election.

Polling Stations

On election day, 189 polling stations in Münster will be open from 8 am to 6 pm.
