Hey there! Today, fourteen departments in eastern France are under an orange weather alert for thunderstorms, issued on June 15, 2025, by Météo-France. The affected departments include Bas-Rhin, Haut-Rhin, Vosges, Haute-Saône, Territoire de Belfort, Doubs, Saône-et-Loire, Rhône, Ain, Haute-Savoie, Savoie, Isère, Ardèche, and Drôme.

The Météo-France orange alert starts at 2 pm and is expected to be lifted by 10 pm due to the potential for "violent" thunderstorms. According to meteorologists, these thunderstorms will be accompanied by heavy rainfall (up to 30 to 40 mm in an hour), hail, strong gusts of wind, and high electrical activity. After the storm, a calm period is foreseen.

Violent thunderstorms hit much of France between Friday, June 12, and Saturday, June 13, resulting in two deaths. In Grandchamp (Yvelines), a 68-year-old man who had taken refuge in a hunting lodge with six others, perished after a tree struck by lightning fell on the building. In addition, a young woman in Paris who was seriously injured in the early hours of Saturday died, as reported by the Paris prosecutor's office. She was spending the evening with friends in the 5th arrondissement when the tree she was under was hit by lightning, causing a branch to fall and strike her on the head, according to the Paris Fire Brigade.

These thunderstorms also caused outages for around 22,500 households in France on Saturday. As of midday on Sunday, approximately 2,800 customers were still without power in Dordogne. The rest of France experienced minimal outages.
