Kazakhstan Braces for Weather Extremes on August 12
Kazakhstan is gearing up for a day of unpredictable weather on August 12, 2025. The country is expected to experience a mix of thunderstorms, heavy rains, squalls, hail, and varying temperatures, with some regions seeing a cooling trend from early August's heatwave.
In the southeastern city of Almaty, the weather forecast predicts a day of variable and cloudy conditions, with no precipitation. Despite the cloud cover, temperatures are set to soar, reaching daytime highs of 35-37°C. Contrastingly, nighttime temperatures will be relatively mild, ranging between 21-23°C. Winds in Almaty will blow from the west, with speeds of 3-8 meters per second.
Further west in Atyrau, the weather will be more temperate, with air temperatures expected to moderate to around 25-33°C during the day and 13-20°C at night. However, heavy rains and thunderstorms are likely due to atmospheric fronts and cyclones passing through western and northwestern regions.
Heavy rains with thunderstorms are also expected across much of Kazakhstan, including central, northern, eastern, and mountainous southeast regions. Strong wind and hail risks exist in many areas, with temperatures in the west and southwest dropping from severe heat (above 40°C) to a maximum of about +33°C. Night temperatures will range widely depending on region, from as low as +5°C in the north to around +20°C in the south and west.
Therefore, on August 12, Kazakhstan is expected to experience weather extremes, with Almaty and Atyrau regions seeing a cooling trend from early August's peak temperatures.
