"Possible Puma" Spotted in Southern Saxony-Anhalt: Police on High Alert

Alert issued over roaming large felines in southern Saxony-Anhalt region

German authorities are on the hunt for a mysterious creature! Reports of a big cat have been spotted near the Geiseltalsee in Saxony-Anhalt, sending shockwaves through the local community. So far, the identifying the animal remains a mystery, with some speculating it might be a puma.

In a startling turn of events, the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance issued a warning message. Spotting a huge predator on Friday evening was confirmed at the Braunsbedra harbor at the Geiseltalsee, Saalekreis. The police are employing extensive surveillance in the area, with a helicopter even joining the search efforts, as reported by a spokesperson for Saalekreis district.

The public got the word through the Nina warning app, with the direct advice to keep a safe distance from the animal and avoid forested and meadowed areas. Since the creature is on the prowl, anyone witnessing it should dial the emergency hotline 112 promptly.

A False Alarm, or a Furious Felid?

Initial reports sparked the assumption that the stunning beast was a lion. Reminiscing the Kleinmachnow fiasco [1], the district revealed that the startling sighting originated from a video clip of the suspected predator on social media. This glacial flooded opencast mine and one of Germany's largest artificial lakes - the Geiseltalsee - houses no zoo.

Sabine Faulstich, head of the Saalekreis district's public order department, set the record straight: "It's not a fake." A reliable source verified the sighting of a big cat in the marina on Friday evening. There's also footage of the animal, she confirmed. Puma experts suggest that the animal matches the description of a puma. However, Faulstich mentioned an 80% certainty that the creature could be a cougar [2].

The Infamous "Lion" Hunt of Kleinmachnow

In an eerily similar incident that occurred approximately two years ago, police, hunters, and veterinarians collaborated to find a supposed lion in Kleinmachnow, southwest of Berlin. A cell phone video motivated the massive search, which unfortunately yielded nothing more than a wild boar at the end[3]. The episode sparked nationwide discussions about managing dangerous wild animals.

Cross your fingers, dear citizens of Saxony-Anhalt! Let's hope this search concludes with a favorable outcome, and the elusive predator can finally be revealed for who, or rather what, it truly is! Let's keep a watchful eye on this thrilling chase and keep our fingers crossed!

Stay tuned, and take care.
