Alert Issued in Voronezh over Potential BPL Workers' Strike Threat
In the city of Voronezh, Russia, an alarm has been declared due to the threat of imminent strikes by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This news was announced by Alexander Gusev, the governor of Voronezh Oblast, on his Telegram channel.
The threat of UAV attacks is not new to the Liskinsky District of Voronezh Oblast, where warning systems have been activated. In fact, Gusev had previously reported this threat, and Ukrainian sources have accused him in a previous statement.
Recent attacks have resulted in multiple casualties, fires, and damage to infrastructure. On the night of August 3–4, new drone attacks hit Voronezh, injuring at least four people—two women hospitalized, another treated on site, and a man with burns hospitalized. The attacks also destroyed one private house and damaged several buildings through falling drone debris.
Earlier strikes in mid-July wounded at least 22 people with injuries ranging from shrapnel wounds to lung damage, and caused significant property damage such as shattered windows.
Ukrainian sources claim these attacks target Russian war-related infrastructure, including a fuel depot in Voronezh as part of a series of assaults on oil refineries and military facilities across Russia. The strikes have contributed to large fires, such as one at an oil depot in Sochi on August 2, which forced Sochi Airport operations to temporarily halt and led to an air raid alert.
Local officials, including Voronezh governor Alexander Gusev, have confirmed casualties and property damage but have not detailed emergency response operations beyond hospitalizations. The Russian Defense Ministry reported destroying dozens of drones across multiple regions overnight in July, indicating active air defense efforts against the UAV threat. However, there are no direct, detailed public updates from the Russian EMERCOM (Ministry of Emergency Situations) specifically about ongoing disaster response or civil protection measures related to these recent drone strikes.
Gusev advised people to enter buildings, stay away from windows, and call 112 if they spot a UAV. If a UAV is spotted, Gusev also advised people to leave its line of sight. Yesterday, air defense forces in Voronezh Oblast shot down several UAVs, but no casualties or damages were reported following these shootdowns, according to Gusev.
The specific type or origin of the UAVs was not specified. The alarm and warnings apply to the city of Voronezh. Gusev recommended keeping an eye on further updates from the Russian EMERCOM or the regional government.
