Alcaraz Wins Japan Open, Skips Shanghai Masters Due to Injury Concerns

Carlos Alcaraz has won the Japan Open, defeating Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-4 in the final on September 30, 2025. However, the Spanish star has announced he will skip the upcoming US Open in Shanghai due to physical issues. Alcaraz, who has had a remarkable season with eight titles and a 67-7 record, captured his 24th career title in Tokyo. This victory was his eighth of the year and came after reaching nine consecutive finals with a 7-2 record. Notably, Alcaraz avenged a loss to Fritz at the Laver Cup earlier this year. Despite his impressive run, Alcaraz has decided to prioritize recovery and will not play in the US Open. No other tournaments have been mentioned that he will skip following the Japan Open. Alcaraz's win in Tokyo keeps him in contention for the year-end No. 1 ranking. His decision to skip the US Open, however, indicates a focus on maintaining his fitness for the remainder of the season.
