After a decade-long hiatus, Unter Null, the solo electronic music project of Erica Dunham, has made a triumphant return to the dark electro and aggrotech scene.

Dunham, a multi-instrumentalist trained in classical piano, cello, and guitar, initiated the project in Seattle, Washington, back in 1998 when she was just 17 years old. Her unique sound quickly gained recognition online during the early 2000s, establishing Unter Null as a significant name in dark electronic music, known for its intense and brutal sound [1][4][5].

In 2005, Dunham signed with the Belgian label Alfa Matrix, under which she released her impactful debut album, The Failure Epiphany, around 20 years ago. This album, a confrontation with trauma and betrayal, marked the beginning of her successful career in the genre [2].

However, after the release of her last album, Moving On, in 2010, Unter Null went silent. That was until 2025, when Dunham re-emerged with renewed energy, new music, and live shows.

Her comeback track, "Coming Up to Breathe," released on April 4, 2025, via Alfa Matrix, symbolizes a renewal and reclaiming of her artistic voice, marking a fresh creative chapter for the project. The release was made available for free as a thank-you to fans, and Dunham has introduced a new live band and collaborations with ambitious plans for the future [2].

Unter Null has maintained a strong presence with live performances scheduled, including appearances at events like Dark Force Fest 2026, underlining the project's ongoing influence and resurgence in the dark electronic music scene [3][4].

In addition to her comeback single, Erica Dunham has also collaborated with the Los Angeles-based dark electro trio Frontal Boundary on the single "Hollow," released on March 29, 2025. This standalone release is not part of an album but a testament to Dunham's ongoing creative collaboration [6].

The "Sick Fuck EP" and "The Failure Epiphany" are other albums released by Unter Null under Alfa Matrix, but the upcoming Unter Null album has not been given a release date yet [1]. The "You Made A Monster" EP, featuring the title track and three additional remixes, is available on all platforms [3].

In summary, Unter Null started as Erica Dunham's solo project in 1998, rose to prominence in the early 2000s, went silent for over a decade, and then returned in 2025 with renewed energy, new music, and live shows, reestablishing its place in the aggrotech and dark electro genres [1][2][3][4][5]. With new collaborations, a revamped live band, and a strong presence in the scene, it seems that Unter Null is here to stay.
