Alberta Teen Breaks Two World Records with Monster Lake Trout

A young angler from Alberta has set two world records after landing two massive lake trout in the Bow River. Ryder Humphries, who spent months preparing for the challenge, reeled in the fish during the autumn of 2025. Both catches have now been officially recognised by the International Game Fish Association (IGFA). The two lake trout each measured an impressive 70 centimetres in length. Humphries hooked them in the fast-flowing waters of the Bow River, where the fish put up a fierce fight. Once caught, they repeatedly dove deep, testing the angler's skill against the strong current.

Before this achievement, Humphries had dedicated months to studying lake trout behaviour. His preparation included refining his techniques to handle such powerful fish. The effort paid off when the IGFA confirmed his catches as both junior and all-tackle world records for the longest lake trout ever landed.

The records mark a significant milestone for Humphries, whose persistence and preparation led to this success. Both fish now stand as the longest lake trout ever officially recorded under IGFA rules. The achievement highlights the Bow River as a prime location for trophy-sized trout.
