Readyto roll the dice? Alberta's about to get a taste of private sportsbook action with big names like DraftKings and FanDuel potentially making their move in time for next year's Super Bowl extravaganza.

This isn't just hot air – it's happening, courtesy of Service Alberta Minister Dale Nally who's been dropping hints at the Canadian Gaming Summit in Toronto. The plan? Launch a full-blown iGaming market that's been missing in action until now.

While the details are still being ironed out, Nally's declared that once they get their ducks in a row on tax laws and ad standards, they'll be ready to kick things off with iGaming Alberta. A specific date? Early 2026 is the target, according to the minister.

The iGaming Alberta Act, fresh off the legislative press, sets the stage for private operators to join the party, competing alongside the government-run Play Alberta platform. And let's face it, with Play Alberta being the lone ranger in town, many residents have been flocking to underground platforms, accounting for more than half of all online betting in the province.

In case you're wondering, Alberta's model's been modelled on Ontario, which recently launched its market through iGaming Ontario. Alberta's likely to adopt a similar structure with its Alberta iGaming Corporation once things get properly straightened out.

But we're not there yet. Before Alberta can bet it all on iGaming, they've got to consult with key players – First Nations and land-based casinos. Nally mentioned that they're still having heated discussions about whether to limit athlete appearances in gambling ads, just like Ontario.

So, there you have it – Alberta's iGaming market's in the works, and it looks like we might see some major players like DraftKings and FanDuel entering the scene in early 2026. buckle up, Cowboys and Cowgirls, it's gonna be a wild ride!

The anticipated entry of sportsbook operators like DraftKings and FanDuel into Alberta's market signifies the expansion of sports activities, as private sportsbooks are poised to compete alongside the government-run Play Alberta platform. With the launch of iGaming Alberta, sports enthusiasts in Alberta will have more options to engage in their favorite sports activities.
