Alarmed Pakistan Issues Warning to Taliban Regarding Association with TTP
In the past few days, a series of terrorist attacks in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province have claimed the lives of at least 12 soldiers, according to reports by various media outlets, including The Express Tribune, Dawn, and The News International. The attacks, conducted by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), have led to an escalation of tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Pakistan's Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, has vowed to respond to these attacks with 'full force.' In a statement, Sharif emphasised the involvement of terrorist leaders and facilitators responsible for the attacks in operating from Afghan soil. He also highlighted the urgent need for the repatriation of illegal Afghan residents currently living in Pakistan, citing their involvement in terrorist incidents.
In response to these concerns, Pakistan has communicated with the Taliban authorities, urging them to cut ties with the TTP and eliminate them from Afghan soil. This message was conveyed by a delegation led by Special Assistant to the Pakistan Prime Minister, Muhammad Sadiq Khan, who recently returned from a visit to the United Arab Emirates.
The Taliban was also summoned by the Pakistani authorities, with Afghanistan's interim ambassador being called to the Foreign Office in Islamabad. Additional Foreign Secretary Syed Ali Assad Gilani expressed Pakistan's concerns about the rise in terrorist activities of Fitna al-Khawarij terrorists, sheltering on Afghan soil.
In a show of solidarity, Sharif visited Bannu and attended a high-level meeting on counter-terrorism, also participating in the funeral prayers of the South Waziristan operation martyrs.
In a bid to address bilateral issues with the Taliban, a delegation of senior officials, led by Muhammad Sadiq Khan, is expected to visit Kabul later this week. The delegation aims to discuss the ongoing tensions and find a resolution to the escalating violence.
The Afghan Interim Government has been urged by Sharif to choose between supporting the Khawarij or standing with Pakistan. The interim government has been reminded that allowing terrorist activities to continue on Afghan soil not only threatens regional stability but also undermines the efforts towards peace and development in the region.
As the situation continues to unfold, the world watches as Pakistan and Afghanistan navigate this challenging period, seeking a peaceful resolution to the ongoing tensions and an end to the violence that has claimed too many lives.
