The Frenchman, known as "The Professor" for his methodical approach to motorsport, has set his sights on winning the Formel-E championship as team manager.

Renault e.Dams, led by Prost, leads the constructors' championship, but his regular driver Sebastian Buemi fights for the title ahead of the Berlin ePrix on Saturday, trailing leader Lucas di Grassi by 11 points.

"We want to win," Prost told CNN ahead of the race in the eighth round. "We have a great team with Renault and a strong technical partner.

"If we want to be one of the best teams, perhaps the best team, we have to win this year. If we don't, it will be disappointing."

Alain Prost retired from F1 in 1993, winning the fourth and final world title of his illustrious career. The Frenchman claimed victory four times at the Monaco Grand Prix and is pictured here after doing so in 1988.
The Frenchman Prost triumphed six times at the French Grand Prix.
Prost was embroiled in a fierce rivalry with Ayrton Senna, his teammate at McLaren. The pair were involved in a series of controversial collisions, often going head to head in the F1 championship.

Championship Standings

Di Grassi, driving for the German team Audi Abt Schaeffler, seized the lead in Long Beach and extended it with a win in Paris's latest race.

While Di Grassi capitalized, Buemi has not seen the finish line since his Uruguayan victory in Punta del Este in December.

However, Prost remains hopeful about his title chances in the championship's second season, despite trailing by a wide margin.

"This is not a catastrophe," said the 61-year-old. "If we don't win the championship, it's because we've made mistakes. But the possibility of winning the world championship still exists."

Why Choose Formula E?

Prost retired from F1 in 1993, winning his fourth and final world title. He bought the Ligier team and led it as Prost Grand Prix for five seasons before its dissolution in 2001.

The thrill of the new electric sport drew the legendary driver back as team owner.

An estimated 20,000 fans showed up to watch the inaugural Paris ePrix. Here's what some of them had to say about the historic event.
She lives in Paris and attends school with her father Gerard, who is from Marseille.
The mother of DS Virgin Racing driver Sam Bird and his girlfriend Holly were in town to support him.
A Formula 1 enthusiast from Senegal traveled to Paris to experience the thrills of electric racing.
“I love motorsport and studied engineering, so Formula E is very cool,” said this fan. “I hope the race is good and action-packed.”
“We love Formula E because we want to learn more about the universe, cars, and driver techniques, and we love Prost!” said this fan. “It's a fantastic thing to do since it helps promote electric cars and sustainability in a beautiful city.”
“I love Formula 1, and that's what led to my interest in Formula E,” said this fan. “The action is spectacular and I can't wait to see the speed in person.”
“I went to London last year for the final race of the season and it was really fun,” said this Dubliner to CNN.
Father and son Richard and Romain took a trip from the Ardèche region in southern France to watch the Paris ePrix. Romain is a Renault e.Dams driver Nico Prost's fan.
“The name and reputation of Formula E have attracted us,” explained Cheers, who co-founded the team with Jean-Paul Driot and receives technical support from Renault. “If you're at the beginning and try to make things better, you'll be a part of it.”

Paris ePrix: "This Is the Race of the Future"

"It was very important for me to experience a new life and be one of the first," explained Cheers, who co-founded the team with Jean-Paul Driot and receives technical support from Renault.

"If you start at the beginning and try to do things better, you can be part of it.

"It's a gamble because we don't know what will happen. The Formula E is always improving. I don't know how the (future) championship position will look."

Race in the city

The Berlin ePrix takes place in the heart of Germany's capital for the first time, offering something new for everyone.

A new location had to be found, as the German government was using the former Tempelhof airport as temporary refugee housing.

With a length of just 2.03 kilometers (1.26 miles), the track was the second shortest in the 2015-16 season.

The cars would travel under the Berlin television tower on Alexanderplatz and the pit stops would be at the famous Karl-Marx-Boulevard.

It will be the first time in almost 20 years that a car will drive through the Berlin city center, and Prost hopes that a race victory will secure him his first title in almost as long.
