Ty Simpson Named Starting Quarterback for Alabama Football's 2025 Season
Ty Simpson, a redshirt junior, has been announced as the starting quarterback for the Alabama Crimson Tide's 2025 season. The news was shared by coach Kalen DeBoer and offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, following a strong performance in preseason practice and scrimmages.
Simpson, a highly ranked dual-threat quarterback recruit from Tennessee in 2022, has been in competition with sophomore Austin Mack and true freshman Keelon Russell for the starting position. His most meaningful game action to date came in 2023, where he led Alabama to a comeback win against South Florida.
In his career, Simpson has played in six games, completing 29 out of 50 passes for 381 yards without a touchdown or an interception. He has also shown his prowess on the ground, gaining 130 yards and scoring three touchdowns. In addition, he rushed for 44 yards in the games he played.
The 2025 season will mark Alabama's second year under DeBoer, following a 2024 season that was their first under his leadership. The Crimson Tide are ranked No. 8 in the preseason Associated Press poll, and they will open the season on August 30th at Florida State.
Simpson's selection as the starting quarterback comes after Jalen Milroe struggled in a previous game, leading to his benching. Tyler Buchner took over but was ineffective, paving the way for Simpson's entry.
