Al-Nassr secures Martinez following his departure from Barcelona
Al-Nassr, the Saudi Pro League club, has made two significant signings this summer. One of these signings is the experienced defender, Inigo Martinez, who joined the team on a free transfer from FC Barcelona.
Martinez, a 34-year-old defender, started his career at Real Sociedad before moving to Athletic Bilbao in 2018. He later joined Barcelona in 2023, making 71 appearances for the Spanish giants before his departure.
Martinez's contract with Al-Nassr is valid until 2026, with an option to leave after the first year or extend for an additional season until June 2027. There was no joining fee involved as he terminated his Barcelona contract by mutual consent to make the move.
Meanwhile, Al-Nassr has also extended Cristiano Ronaldo's contract for two more seasons. Another big signing for the club is Joao Felix, who joined from Chelsea, although details about his current status and contract with Al-Nassr are not available.
In a separate development, PSG has signed French goalkeeper Chevalier from Lille, marking another new addition to the team.
As Al-Nassr prepares to face Al-Ittihad in the semi-final of the Saudi Super Cup on 19 August, the addition of Martinez and the continuation of Ronaldo's contract are expected to strengthen the team's defence and offence respectively, potentially leading to a successful run in the competition.
In Al-Nassr's ongoing quest for success, the addition of Inigo Martinez, former defender of European-leagues teams such as Real Sociedad, Athletic Bilbao, and FC Barcelona, has been confirmed. His signing follows his departure from Barcelona in 2023, joining Al-Nassr on a contract valid until 2026, with an option to leave or extend it till June 2027.
