The image shows a group of people sitting at desks with laptops in a classroom. There are bags on the floor and a wall with text on the left side of the image. In the background, there are windows and doors, suggesting that the people are in a school setting. The text on both sides of the wall likely indicates that the students are taking part in an online course in Ghana, as indicated by the text at the bottom of the picture.

Aktobe schools shut down as freezing temperatures force online classes

Freezing temperatures have forced schools in Aktobe to switch to online learning. The change takes effect on January 15, affecting all students in grades 1 to 11. Officials cited harsh weather as the reason for the sudden move.

Anar Zhaxybayeva, head of the city’s education department, announced the decision. She confirmed that every school in Aktobe would shift to remote classes. The measure follows similar steps taken in Astana, where schools had already moved online.

A powerful anticyclone from the Novaya Zemlya region is sweeping across Kazakhstan. This system is pushing temperatures sharply lower nationwide. The extreme cold has disrupted daily life, prompting authorities to take action.

The switch to distance learning will remain in place until conditions improve. Schools in Aktobe have suspended in-person classes for all year groups. Further updates will depend on weather forecasts in the coming days.
