In the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, July 2025 has seen a significant escalation. According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Kyiv has been the main target of Russian attacks.

Russia's military strategy involves large-scale drone attacks and ground offensives, with thousands of one-way attack drones launched into Ukraine. In just one month, Russia launched 3,200 drones, reaching a record of over 700 in a single night on July 9, marking the largest aerial strike of the war so far.

Despite these relentless attacks, Ukrainian forces have managed to prevent Russia from capturing major towns for months and have even reclaimed areas such as Chasiv Yar in the Donetsk region. However, Russian ground forces have seized approximately 550 square kilometers of Ukrainian land, resulting in high casualty numbers. Over a million Russian troops have been killed or wounded since the war began, with 240,000 casualties in 2025 alone.

Russian strikes continue to target civilian and military infrastructure within Ukraine. A tragic example is an airstrike on a correctional facility in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, which claimed at least 17 lives and wounded 42. President Zelensky reported 22 civilian deaths from Russian strikes within a 24-hour period and condemned the ongoing Russian aggression as war crimes.

Ukraine has been defending itself against Russian invasion for over three years. As part of its defensive campaign, Ukraine regularly attacks targets in Russia. One such operation, "Spider Web," delivered a precise and successful strike undermining Russian capabilities. Cross-border drone strikes and missile attacks continue at night, with Ukraine intercepting many incoming Russian drones and missiles, though some continue to cause damage.

Diplomatic efforts, such as US President Donald Trump’s ultimatum aiming for a ceasefire, have not altered Russia’s stance. Kremlin officials affirm no intention to change their military approach, seeing the war as a “special military operation.” Russia continues moving its agenda forward despite international pressure and sanctions.

The air traffic authority Rosaviatsiya reported temporary restrictions at Volgograd and Saratov airports due to Ukrainian drone attacks. Residential infrastructure in Kyiv was also damaged by the air strike. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported nine injured minors - the highest number of injured minors in one night in Kyiv since the start of the war.

In a response to Ukraine's desire for peace with America and Europe, Zelensky stated that today's attacks demonstrate Russia's stance. Moscow fired more than 300 drones and 8 missiles, causing damage in various regions around Kyiv and in the regions of Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Sumy, Mykolajiw.

A notable incident occurred when Ukraine launched an attack on the Penza region in Russia, causing a fire on an industrial site. Fortunately, no casualties or significant damage were reported in the incident. However, no further details about the aftermath or response to the fire on the industrial site in Penza were provided.

The situation remains highly volatile with continuing military escalation on both sides affecting both combatants and civilians. The conflict shows no signs of abating, with both sides digging in for a prolonged struggle.

  1. The escalation in July 2025 of the war-and-conflicts between Ukraine and Russia has led to intense discussions in policy-and-legislation circles, with politicians worldwide weighing in on the crisis.
  2. Amid the ongoing war, general-news outlets report an overwhelming increase in crime-and-justice incidents, with civilian casualties mounting due to Ukrainian and Russian attacks on civilian and military infrastructure.
  3. Accidents have become a significant concern in regions affected by the war, with critical infrastructure, such as airports and residential areas, getting damaged due to war-and-conflicts escalation and subsequent strikes. For instance, the Volgograd and Saratov airports face temporary restrictions due to Ukrainian drone attacks, and residential infrastructure in Kyiv is vulnerable to air strikes, resulting in injured minors.
