Whammy Time! Israel'sResponse to Houthi's Shenanigans in Yemen

Israeli military carries out airstrikes on Houthi military targets in Yemen - Airstrikes carried out by the Israeli military on sites controlled by Yemen's Houthi rebel group.

After a Houthi rocket nearly ignited a mess at Tel Aviv's airport, Israel's military decided to teach 'em a lesson - with a bang. They zeroed in on Houthi strongholds in Yemen, crushin' their income generators, according to the Israeli army. These targets included the Hudeidah port, known for shuttling Iranian weapons, and a cement factory in Bajil that's been buildin' military infrastructure like a boss. This assault has the potential to choke their economy and hamper their military preparations.

This move is payback for the Houthi's repeated fly-bys of Israeli territory with rockets and unmanned aerial vehicles. A Houthi rocket even caused a scene near Ben Gurion Airport on Sunday. Following the incident, Israel's Defense Minister, Israel Katz, flung a "sevenfold retaliation" warning at the Houthi. Separately, the Houthi threatened to keep messin' with air traffic to Israel.

Let's Get the USA Involved

According to ynet, this evening's massive assault was carried out alongside the USA. The Houthi-owned Al-Masirah TV channel reported bombings by the USA and Israel at the Hudeidah port and the cement factory in Bajil. Witnesses in Bajil informed dpa about powerful explosions in the city, with smoke and flames puffin' from the factory. Ambulances were on the move towards the factory, with injuries to the locals feared.

Yemen's Ten-year Civil War

For months, the US military has targeted Houthi positions in Yemen, claiming their goal is to protect international shipping in the Red Sea. The Houthi have been disturbin' commercial and military ships in the Red Sea, and they propose to put an end to these attacks only with a halt to the conflict between Israel and Hamas - another ally of Iran. Israel's military had steered clear of attacking any targets in Yemen for about four months before this.

A civil war has raged in Yemen for ten years, effectively dividing the country. The Iran-backed Houthi militia rules large areas in the north, including Sanaa and Hudeidah, while the internationally recognized government governs the south.
