Airstrikes carried out by Israel in the Rafah region lead to the death of 31 individuals and injure more than 200 others at a humanitarian aid distribution site.

3-Minute Update:

A tragic event unfolded in Rafah, the southern region of Gaza Strip, where Israeli troops' action left 31 dead and over 200 injured. Outrage erupted as these casualties resulted from Israeli forces opening fire while hundreds were lining up for humanitarian aid distribution at a newly opened Al Alam point.

The Israeli occupation forces were accused of committing yet another atrocity by targeting "hungry civilians" who had gathered for food assistance. The Gaza authorities denounced the incident in a statement, describing it as a "new massacre."

According to local sources, Israeli tanks unleashed a barrage of fire around 4 AM (local time) against civilians who had gathered in the neighborhood of Tel al Sultan, Rafah, near a distribution point.

Management of the Distribution Point

Reports suggest that the distribution point was managed by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) – an organization backed by Israel and the United States – which has been operational in the Gaza Strip for a short while.

The GHF denied rumors of civilian casualties and injuries at their distribution site and accused Hamas of spreading false information. Meanwhile, the Israeli Army stated that their initial investigation revealed no evidence supporting reports of firing on civilians at the distribution point.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams responded to the crisis, treating the wounded at Nasser Hospital in Jan Yunis. Disturbing testimonies from the patients allege they were under attack from all directions – drones, helicopters, ships, tanks, and Israeli soldiers on the ground.

The International Community's Response

Critics claim that the new aid delivery system is "dehumanizing, dangerous, and gravely ineffective," with civilian deaths and injuries being unavoidable consequences. Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, EU, and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, publicly urged Israel to end the "inhuman war" on innocent Gazans, recognizing the urgent need for the population to receive essential resources such as healthcare, education, and dignity.

On the other hand, the Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Oren Marmorstein, shared images capturing a masked man, supposedly affiliated with Hamas, wielding a weapon and looting aid trucks. The army also reported armed and masked men launching attacks on civilians attempting to collect humanitarian aid in southern Khan Yunis.

However, for a second consecutive day, over 70 trucks with aid supplies were raided near Jan Yunis. Thousands of people flocked to collect basic products before the looting occurred, with a Gazan group seizing the trucks sent to deliver aid to the northern region of the enclave. The World Food Programme (WFP) has confirmed the theft and requested each person to take only one bag.

As the situation in Gaza worsens, the international community continues to call for an immediate halt to the violence and the implementation of a two-state solution. The Spanish government, in support of this plea, strongly advocates for a Palestinian state with geographical continuity and a corridor leading to the sea in Gaza, with East Jerusalem as the capital.
