Airstrikes by Israel result in the death of at least 36 individuals, following a loosening of aid restrictions in Gaza the previous day.
The current situation in Gaza is marked by a deepening humanitarian crisis, with widespread displacement, severe malnutrition, a collapsing health system, and difficulties accessing essential resources.
Displacement
Most of Gaza’s population has been displaced multiple times since October 7, 2023. Tens of thousands are living in the streets or makeshift tents due to extensive destruction of infrastructure.
Malnutrition
Malnutrition rates have reached alarming levels, especially among children and pregnant or breastfeeding women. In July 2025 alone, 63 of 74 malnutrition-related deaths occurred, including 24 children under five. Many specialized nutrition treatment centers are overwhelmed and running low on supplies and fuel.
Health System Collapse
Over 94% of Gaza’s hospitals have been damaged or destroyed. Healthcare workers face exhaustion and shortages of essential medications. Attacks on healthcare have continued unabated, leading to diseases spreading rapidly due to breakdowns in water and sanitation systems.
Casualties during Aid Access
Since late May 2025, hundreds of Palestinians have been killed or injured while trying to access food, highlighting the dangers civilians face amid the siege and conflict.
Restricted Aid Flow
Since early 2025, Israel has imposed a total siege on Gaza, closing border crossings and severely restricting the entry of goods and humanitarian aid. Limited aid is entering only via a US- and Israeli-backed distribution scheme criticized by the UN.
Israeli Military Operations
Israel has conducted large-scale military operations in Gaza and the occupied West Bank since January 2025. These operations have caused significant Palestinian casualties and displacement, killing thousands, destroying residential buildings, and restricting access to about 80% of Gaza. Over 632,000 have been displaced by the violence.
International Response
Aid agencies have welcomed the new aid measures but say they are not enough to counter the rising hunger in Gaza. International actors have called for sustained humanitarian aid, protection of civilians, and efforts to end hostilities.
Recent Developments
On Monday, at least 36 Palestinians were killed in Gaza, according to local health officials. Israel announced a pause in military operations in Gaza City, Deir al-Balah, and Muwasi for 10 hours a day to allow for improved aid flow. However, Israel will continue military operations alongside the new humanitarian measures.
The latest strikes occurred outside the time frame for the pause Israel declared. At least 11 people were killed in a strike in the western neighborhood of Khan Younis, more than half of them women and children. 20 others were wounded close to the aid distribution site.
U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed concern over the images of emaciated and malnourished children in Gaza, calling them "terrible." Israel's retaliatory offensive has killed more than 59,800 Palestinians, according to Gaza's Hamas-run Health Ministry.
The situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, with no end to the conflict in sight. The international community must take action to alleviate the suffering of the people of Gaza and work towards a peaceful resolution.
