Joint Base Andrews Air Show 2022: A Spectacular Weekend of Aviation and Entertainment

The Washington, D.C. region is set for an exciting aviation event as the Joint Base Andrews Air Show returns this weekend, from Saturday, 10th September to Sunday, 11th September. The free, two-day event will take place at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland.

Visitors can look forward to an array of performances, including the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, the U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute team, the U.S. Naval Academy Parachute Team, the F-35A Lightning II Demonstration Team, and the C-17 Demo Team. Six Thunderbird aircraft and one camera aircraft will fly in formation during the flyover, scheduled for Friday, 9th September at approximately 8:15 a.m. over the National Mall.

In addition to the aerial demonstrations, the air show will feature static displays, STEAM exhibits, military band performances, and honor guard presentations. The event aims to celebrate the evolution of airpower and showcase current U.S. military aviation capabilities.

For those planning to attend, free public parking will be available at Northwest Stadium on both days, with free bus services to Joint Base Andrews. Buses will run from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day, with the last return bus departing at 5 p.m. A C-17 aircraft will join the formation around 8:45 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Please note that residents near Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, may notice increased traffic and road closures during the air show. The city is temporarily closing Suitland Parkway during some air show performances on September 11, 12, 13, and 14. Closure times are approximately 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on September 11, 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. on September 12, 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on September 13, and 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on September 14.

Parking at Joint Base Andrews is only open to DoD cardholders; public parking is only available at Northwest Stadium. However, the air show promises to be a memorable experience for all, offering a unique blend of military and civilian aviation, entertainment, and education.
