Airport Operations under Restrictions at Domodedovo: Limited Access and Services.
Because of potential drone threats, flights are temporarily halted at Domodedovo Airport
Hey there! The official rep of Rosaviatsiya, Artem Koreniako, just announced some news that might affect your travel plans. As of 19:15 Moscow time, Domodedovo Airport isn't accepting or sending flights due to temporary restrictions.
Previously, similar restrictions were implemented at Zhukovsky, Kaluga, Ivanovo, and Yaroslavl airports.
Now, it seems these restrictions are linked to some security concerns. Recently, there have been incidents involving Ukrainian drones spotted in the Moscow region, leading to the implementation of security measures. On May 6, 2025, these concerns caused significant disruptions at Moscow's Vnukovo and Domodedovo airports. These disruptions were part of 'Plan Kover', a broader safety measure to ensure security.
Incidentally, the situation also triggered a series of security measures at several airports across central Russia. Apart from Domodedovo and Vnukovo, these airports include Zhukovsky, Nizhny Novgorod, Kaluga, Tambov, and Yaroslavl airports. The air defense forces shot down Ukrainian drones in the area, which led to these measures.
Luckily, the restrictions at Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports have been lifted as of May 7, 2025. However, the situation has caused a bit of a headache for Russian aviation, with many flights facing delays or cancellations across major airports. If you're planning to fly, keep an eye on the updates!
