Airport ceiling crash causes harm to two individuals

Incident at Caselle during Easter: Two control officers assaulted. One hospitalized with a 10-day prognosis. Sagat launches an internal investigation.

Airport ceiling crash causes harm to two individuals

A jarring incident unfolded at Caselle Airport on a Sunday morning, when an ** Auntie Em-sized aluminum panel tumbled from the ceiling, plummeting about three meters. This occurred in the security check area, mere moments before 10 am, where two diligence agents from the 'Puma' company** were stationed –– the firm responsible for airport security services.

Casualties from the Collapse

According to public statements from USB and Cgil unions, both security officers sustained injuries. One suffered a calf wound, while the other narrowly escaped unscathed. Records show that only one officer sought medical attention from the airport's medical team. She was promptly transported to the Sandro Pertini Airport's emergency room for initial treatment, followed by a transfer to the hospital for further care and examination. The unions have launched an internal investigation at their disposal to uncover the root cause of this calamity.

The Union's Tirade against the Airport's Decrepit State

"We've been rattling on about this for eons: the ceilings are a mess, covered with grime, and dangerously low – says Vincenzo Lauricella of Ali vigilanza-Usb, shaking with indignation. The ceiling collapse is no mere accident: it's the culmination of years of neglect by the airport's operator". USB claims that this was the second incident in the last three years, compromising worker safety. In response, Ali-Usb has declared a state of uproar and is preparing to walk off the job.

Cgil's Stern Rebuke of Airport Maintenance

Although Cgil's tone is less flustered, their stance is equally resolute, stating in a memorandum that "maintenance interventions have been inadequate" in the areas where security personnel are performing their duties. "We will request a meeting with Sagat – the memorandum reads – the incident on Sunday is deplorable". Cgil voices their concerns due to Caselle Airport, which won the award for the best European airport under five million passengers this year, having "substantial revenue and investments". However, Cgil alleges that Sagat has falling short when it comes to budgeting for safety.

Sagat's Response to the Incident and Future Investments

Sagat asserts that the suspended ceilings are assessed annually. In response to Lauricella's remarks, Sagat downplayed claims of a three-year-old incident occurring, stating that no such event transpired. As announced on March 21 to our publication by Andrea Andorno, Sagat's CEO, the company plans to invest 40 million euros in the forthcoming four years. According to the company, this money will also be allocated for infrastructure improvements and maintenance at the Pertini Airport.
