Airline Staff Member Comfort Emmanson Summoned by Federal Government Due to In-flight Dispute with Ibom Air Team
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has summoned Ibom Air cabin crew member, Juliana Edward, and passenger Comfort Emmanson for further investigations into an incident that took place aboard an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos on August 10, 2025.
Michael Achimugu, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, confirmed these developments during a stakeholders meeting in Abuja on August 19, 2025. He stated that he personally spoke with Emmanson and that both she and the cabin crew member were invited for continued inquiry.
According to the NCAA, the investigation is focused on gathering more information to uncover all facts surrounding the incident. It was clarified that the pilot did not summon security personnel upon landing as the issue appeared resolved during the flight. Comfort Emmanson, who was the last passenger to disembark, reportedly used the restroom after landing.
Senator Buhari Abdulfatai, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, has linked rising misconduct cases in aviation partly to a decline in discipline among passengers and staff. He urged strict professional standards and support for NCAA enforcement.
While some reports have suggested that Comfort Emmanson has been banned for life and arrested, these claims have not been officially confirmed by the NCAA. It is important to note that the investigation is still ongoing, and all parties involved are cooperating with the authorities.
The NCAA has also reiterated its stance on the importance of adhering to safety protocols, including the rule that all mobile phones must be completely switched off during aircraft take-off and landing.
The Ibom Air cabin crew will be present for investigation tomorrow, providing an opportunity for the NCAA to gather more information and clarify the events that transpired on that fateful day. The NCAA remains committed to ensuring the safety and comfort of all passengers and crew members in Nigerian airspace.
