Airline Pilot Erroneously Flies to Jeddah Using Mother's Passport
In an unusual turn of events, Captain Muntasir Rahman of Biman Bangladesh Airlines inadvertently used his mother's passport instead of his own during a Dhaka-Jeddah flight on September 16. Upon landing at Jeddah airport, Saudi immigration officials discovered the passport mix-up and barred Captain Muntasir Rahman from leaving the airport's premises for his hotel.
The incident caused a brief delay, but no flights were delayed due to the mishap. Saudi immigration officials initially refused to release Captain Muntasir Rahman, but the airline's Jeddah station manager intervened and persuaded the authorities to release the pilot.
Boshra Islam, Biman's General Manager (Public Relations), shared this information with a news website. She confirmed that the incident took place at Jeddah airport and that Captain Muntasir Rahman was the pilot of the flight.
In response to the incident, Captain Muntasir Rahman plans to operate the scheduled return flight once his passport reaches Jeddah. The airline is sending Captain Muntasir Rahman's passport on a separate Biman flight. However, the person who relieved Captain Muntasir Rahman from the refusal of release upon arrival in Jeddah was not publicly specified.
Despite the passport mix-up, no financial losses were incurred due to the incident involving Captain Muntasir Rahman. The destination of the flight was Jeddah, and the incident occurred during the flight on September 16.
This incident serves as a reminder for all passengers and crew members to ensure they have the correct travel documents before boarding a flight. Biman Bangladesh Airlines is working closely with the authorities to ensure such incidents do not happen in the future.
