Aircraft explosive devices on the rise?
In the heart of Germany, the city of Stuttgart has once again become a focal point for an unexpected discovery. On Tuesday, another World War II unexploded bomb was found on the Stuttgart-21 construction site in Untertürkheim.
This is not an isolated incident. Last year, 13 unexploded bombs were removed, and the year before that, 16. In 2021, a so-called "dud" bomb was found near the train station on the S-21 construction site. The current year seems to be within the usual range of fluctuations of the preceding years, with defusers intervening in 20 cases, compared to 21 cases in 2021.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service Baden-Württemberg, part of the Stuttgart Regional Council, has been tasked with handling these discoveries. The service has been busy, with a small cordon required only for the remaining amount of explosive material from the 2021 dud bomb.
The unexploded bomb found in Untertürkheim was defused in the evening. However, the discovery has caused disruption, with approximately 6,000 people having to evacuate their homes in the Stuttgart district of Birkach a few weeks ago, and another 6,000 people in Bad Cannstatt on Thursday.
Elsewhere in Germany, the Rems-Murr district has seen a peculiar sight. Hundreds of power poles are now wearing black cuffs, but the reason for this remains unclear from the given information.
In a separate incident, a poisoning drama occurred in Vaihingen/Enz, involving nurses who were fearful of becoming the next victim. It's important to note that these events are not related to the bomb discoveries in Stuttgart.
