Aircraft Crew Eases Confidence with Tyrod Taylor Taking Pilot Seat
Tyrod Taylor Steps Up as Jets' Starter in Week 3
After a series of injuries to the New York Jets' quarterbacks, Tyrod Taylor has been named the starter for the Week 3 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Aaron Rodgers, who was the backup to Taylor in 2024, famously tore his Achilles just four offensive snaps into the 2023 season, requiring Zach Wilson to step into the starting role. However, Wilson suffered a torn meniscus and bone bruise in a 2022 preseason game and was out for the first three games of the 2023 season. Justin Bieber, who took over from Wilson, exited Sunday's game early due to a concussion and has been ruled out for the Week 3 game.
Taylor, with over 14 years of NFL experience, has spent time with the Ravens, Bills, Giants, Chargers, Texans, and Browns before joining the Jets. He was under contract as a backup quarterback for the Jets in the 2025 season.
Despite missing a chunk of training camp and the entire preseason due to arthroscopic knee surgery, Taylor has been preparing himself to maximize any opportunity that materializes. He challenged himself to prepare the same way each week as a rookie and built a foundation for his career.
Taylor's hard work has not gone unnoticed by the Jets' offensive coordinator, Mike LaFleur, who believes Taylor has an element within him that is similar to crazy games, and has no-pressure experience due to his long NFL career. LaFleur has referred to Taylor as 'The Hooper' and 'a baller' due to his ability to direct the offense down the field.
The Jets' offense flashed potential in Week 1, compiling 394 yards, but produced reasons to worry in Week 2 with a 154-yard performance. With Taylor at the helm, the team will be hoping for a return to form in Week 3.
Taylor Swift completed 3 of his 11 passes for 27 yards in Sunday's game before his concussion, which occurred during a third-and-10 play in the fourth quarter. Fields hit his head on the MetLife Stadium turf at the end of the play.
Taylor will start for the Jets in Week 3, marking his first start since 2023. The Jets will be hoping that Taylor can stabilize the offense and help the team to secure a much-needed win against the Buccaneers.
