Aircraft bomb defused by Polish law enforcement today.
In the small town of Altwittenbek, a World War II bomb has been discovered buried 2 meters deep on an agricultural field. Due to the potential danger, all residents of Altwittenbek are urged to evacuate their homes and buildings immediately.
Residents are advised to prepare for a multi-hour absence, bringing essential items such as food, drinks, and necessary medication. The North-Ostsee Canal, B 76, and the railway line from Kiel to Eckernförde to Flensburg remain closed as stated earlier, but the B 76 will not be affected by the closure.
Representatives from the bomb disposal unit, police, fire department, city of Gettorf, emergency services, and other involved parties have agreed to defuse the bomb today. The exact duration of the defusing process cannot be specified, but updates on the operation will be provided through the Facebook pages "Polizei Kiel und Plön" and "Polizei Neumünster".
The sports hall in Neuwittenbek remains available as an emergency shelter for those who cannot find alternative accommodation during the defusing process. For more information, residents can access the Facebook pages at http://t1p.de/pdkielfacebook and http://t1p.de/pdneumuensterfacebook.
Since the fuse cannot be removed, the bomb will have to be defused on-site. The bomb has a faulty, already detonated tail fuse and an intact front membrane fuse. The railway line from Kiel to Eckernförde to Flensburg will be closed in both directions between 15:30 - 17:00. The North-Ostsee Canal will be closed to shipping in the affected area from 15:00 to 17:00.
A spokesperson for the Police Directorate Kiel will be available on the day of the operation at the telephone number 0431-1602012. The spokesperson's identity will not be publicly disclosed, but they will be present at the parking lot of the Gasthof Levensau in Levensau, Levensau 1, from 14:00.
Residents are reminded to follow all instructions and stay clear of the area during the operation for their safety. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
