Airbus Transport in Zoo Starts End of October - Airbus Restaurant Takes Flight to Serengeti Park in 2026
An old Bundeswehr Airbus, named after the late politician Kurt Geiger, is set to be transported from Hannover Airport to Serengeti Park in Südheide at the end of October. The aircraft will be converted into a restaurant with about 200 seats, planned to open by late summer 2026.
The Airbus will be lowered from 6.80 meters to 5.90 meters to safely pass through a protected area for about 1.8 kilometers. The transport will take place over three nights: October 26th, 27th, and 30th, with a strict timeframe between 22:00 and 6:00.
The 'reverse rigging' method will be used to tie up tree branches along the route. A practical test confirmed no damage would occur to the trees. The detached wings and vertical stabilizer will be brought into the park beforehand. The restaurant will have 150 seats inside and outdoor seating on the wings.
The Airbus restaurant, named after the Bundeswehr-Airbus 'Kurt Geiger,' is expected to become a unique dining experience at Serengeti Park. The careful planning and execution of the transport ensure minimal impact on the environment, with the restaurant set to open in late summer 2026.
