Airborne Drones Downed in Krasnodar Region During the Night Hours
In the wee hours of August 1, Russian air defenses successfully repelled a massive attack by Ukrainian drones, striking multiple regions across Russia. The assault targeted energy and transport infrastructure, industrial enterprises, and military targets, causing explosions, fires, and casualties.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, a total of 60 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles were intercepted and destroyed during this attack. Notably, the majority of the drones were neutralized over the territory of the Belgorod region, with 31 devices being shot down.
The regions affected by this attack include Penza, Samara, Rostov, Krasnodar, and Sochi. In Krasnodar Krai alone, there were 5 drone interceptions, while the Tula and Lipetsk regions each reported 2 interceptions. The Rostov region experienced 12 drone interceptions, marking a significant scale of the attack.
In addition to the Belgorod region, drones were also shot down over the Black Sea, with 4 drones being intercepted. One drone was also reportedly shot down over the Azov Sea.
The attacks resulted in casualties and infrastructure damage in several Russian regions, with at least three deaths and several wounded reported.
This marked a significant escalation and continuation of drone warfare, with Ukraine successfully penetrating deep into Russian regions despite robust Russian air defenses. The attacks coincide with Russian offensive attempts on Ukrainian frontlines, resulting in reciprocal drone strikes overnight between August 1-2.
It's important to note that the exact location of the other drone interceptions is not specified, and no specific information was provided about any damage or casualties resulting from the attack.
This incident was reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense, and it comes amidst ongoing drone and missile strikes from both sides as part of the broader conflict.
