In its fourth year, the conflict in Ukraine has taken a turn for the worse, with a significant increase in civilian casualties due to Russia's intensified air strikes on Ukrainian towns and cities.

The largest aerial attack occurred on the night of June 29, 2025, when Russia launched 537 aerial weapons, including 477 drones and missiles, overwhelming Ukraine's air defenses and causing devastation. This surge in attacks has deliberately targeted Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, leading to record civilian casualties and the highest number of deaths in over three years of conflict.

Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, in a poignant post, shared an image of a devastated block of apartments in Kyiv, while President Volodymyr Zelenskiy posted a video of burning ruins in the city. Sybiha has been vocal about Putin's intentional targeting of civilians, a claim Russia denies.

The escalation of attacks coincides with Russia's difficulties in making significant ground progress in Ukraine and seems intended to terrorize the civilian population and pressure Ukraine politically. The bombardments have continued into July, with strikes on Kyiv and other eastern cities like Kramatorsk resulting in many civilian deaths and injuries.

France and other international actors have condemned the massive airstrikes targeting civilians, highlighting the deliberate nature of these attacks despite calls for negotiations. President Trump, who has been attempting to find a solution with Putin, shortened a deadline for peace this week, expressing growing concern over the situation.

The attack on Kyiv, confirmed by city military administrator Tymur Tkachenko, caused damage in 27 locations across four districts of the city, including residential buildings, schools, and hospitals. Reports indicate that at least six people, including a child, were killed in this missile and drone attack.

As the conflict continues, the international community urges for a peaceful resolution and an end to the targeting of civilians, with hopes that diplomatic efforts will lead to a lasting peace in Ukraine.

Cross-border tensions remain high as war-and-conflicts persist in Ukraine, with ongoing politics heavily influencing the situation. General-news outlets have reported an increase in crime-and-justice incidents, as civilian casualties reach record highs due to Russian air strikes. Despite calls for negotiations, the international community continues to express concern over these deliberate attacks on Ukrainian civilians.
