Hope Fading for Bochum: Dieter Hecking Keeps Fingers Crossed Amidst Relegation Battle

Potential Advancement in St. Pauli's Championship Finale? Hecker's Optimism Remains High - Aiming to Reach the Finals with St. Pauli, as Hopes mount for Hecking.

In the penultimate Bundesliga match, Bochum's coach, Dieter Hecking, remains optimistic, hanging onto an inkling of hope for survival, despite the daunting circumstances. "Naturally, we're hoping for the best. Yet, it's us who's got to ignite the flame. We're banking on a positive outcome," Hecking declared before the forthcoming face-off against FSV Mainz 05 scheduled for Saturday (3:30 PM/Sky).

A loss in this game would officially condemn VfL to relegation. However, a draw or a win would leave them depending on missteps from their immediate rivals. "It's crucial we keep our eyes on our own game. All possibilities remain. I'm crossing my fingers for a final showdown at St. Pauli," stressed the 60-year-old veteran coach. Granted, the atmosphere at the St. Pauli stadium — and therefore the team — would intuitively be aware of the unfolding events on other pitches. "But our main priority is taking care of business tomorrow first."

Regrettably, Bochum's roster depletes further for the last home game of the season. Apart from striker Philipp Hofmann, who was hospitalized last week due to a lung collapse and a subsequent rib fracture in the game against Heidenheim, and has since been discharged according to Hecking, defender Mohammed Tolba will also be sidelined owing to adductor issues.
