Aiming for tranquility in Vienna!
On Sunday, September 21, the "Oktoberfest Trachten and Shooting Parade 2025" will kick off at 7:15 PM, marking the beginning of the 190th Oktoberfest on Munich's Theresienwiese. This annual event, a tribute to the legendary parade held for King Ludwig I and Therese of Bavaria's silver wedding anniversary in 1835, will see around 9,000 festively dressed participants, including folk groups, sports and mountain shooters, brass bands, and fanfare bands.
The parade will be the main highlight on the first channel, with BR television joining the broadcast at 11:00 AM. The famous starting command, "O'zapft is!", will be delivered by Munich's Mayor Dieter Reiter, who will also tap the first barrel in the Schottenhamel tent.
The opening weekend of the Oktoberfest will be accompanied by various live broadcasts and documentaries. BR presenters Susanne Wiesner and Michael Sporer will moderate the tapping ceremony in the Schottenhamel tent. Meanwhile, the annual "O'zapft is" ritual will be covered by the First and BR television.
Behind-the-scenes insights will be provided through interviews with fairground operators, waitstaff, workers, and employees. Klaus Roeder is filming the last two weeks of Wiesn setup in a 45-minute format, while the filmmaker producing the documentary about the preparations for the Oktoberfest 2025 edition remains unnamed in the available search results. The installation of roller coasters, carousels, and stands is being documented as part of this production.
Actor Klaus Steinbacher will share the unusual story of his casting for the series "Oktoberfest 1905". Actress Rosalie Thomass will report on the filming of her first "Tatort Franken". The second season of the "Oktoberfest" series will air in the evening, with the first episode of the second season of "Oktoberfest 1900" being broadcast on the First at 8:15 PM the same evening.
Food lovers can look forward to the "Wiesn Delicacies under the Bavaria" show, part of the "Cooking Stories" series on Sunday at 12:00 PM. Additionally, "Saddled Up and Harnessed - With Bull Riders to the Oktoberfest" is a documentary airing at 9:15 PM on BR television on Sunday.
The Oktoberfest promises to be a thrilling event, filled with tradition, entertainment, and a glimpse into the world behind the scenes. Don't miss out on the excitement!
