MSV Duisburg Roaring Back to 3. Liga Action

Aiming for the third tier competition?

After a dismal relegation to the Regionalliga West last year, MSV Duisburg have bounced back, aiming for more than just survival in the 3. Liga. The Zebras have displayed a resilient spirit since their record-low point in the club's history, showing promise for a higher rank.

Despite falling short in the state cup final against Rot-Weiss Essen, the season was overall successful. The match against Essen served as a confidence builder for the club's management, including CEO Michael Preetz, sporting director Chris Schmoldt, and coach Dietmar Hirsch, as the game was competitively close to the second-best team in the second half of the 3. Liga season.

Gearing Up for a Revamped Season

Following a short hiatus, MSV is set to regroup on June 22 with mandatory fitness assessments before the first training session open to fans on June 23. The team's preparation will include several friendlies against Duisburger SV 1900, VfB Homberg, and SK Lommel, offering coach Hirsch the opportunity to mould a formidable team from the existing squad and new signees able to compete in the third division.

With the departure of three offensive players - Jesse Tugbenyo, Kilian Pagliuca, and Dustin Willms - their contracts not being renewed, the team will welcome reinforcements. Two new external signings are already on board, including 21-year-old right-back Niklas Jessen and 24-year-old defensive midfielder Rasim Bulic.

Anticipating More Newcomers

While Jessen and Bulic are key additions, other new signees are expected as MSV Duisburg plans not just to earn promotion but to lay the groundwork for a future return to the 2. Bundesliga with improved economic prospects.

Although details about further signings are scarce, rumors suggest the arrival of players like Marvin Bakalorz and Lars Dietz, but confirmations are yet to be made. Additionally, some lower-profile defensive or goalkeeping transfers may have occurred but are not widely publicized.

Consulting the club’s official website or trusted German football archives would be necessary for a complete and accurate list of all 2022 signees. Current online resources focusing more on recent (2024–2025) contract news and regional league transfers may offer limited information about MSV Duisburg's 2022 summer signings.

MSV Duisburg, with their focus on a higher rank in European leagues, will look for reinforcements in their squad after the departure of Jesse Tugbenyo, Kilian Pagliuca, and Dustin Willms. Key additions include 21-year-old right-back Niklas Jessen and 24-year-old defensive midfielder Rasim Bulic, but rumors suggest the arrival of potentially more players such as Marvin Bakalorz and Lars Dietz.
