Aiming for a trio of victories this season.
Berlin Polar Bears Set Sights on Third Consecutive DEL Title
The Berlin Polar Bears, fresh off their eleventh overall Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) championship win in the 2024-25 season, are gearing up for the 2025-26 season with the ambition of defending their title.
Coach Serge Aubin acknowledges the challenges that lie ahead, but remains optimistic about the team's prospects. "Repeating our achievements will be a big challenge," Aubin said, "but we have a strong team, and I believe it takes a special group of people and a special attitude to achieve our goals."
The Polar Bears have largely retained their squad for the upcoming season, with only Zach Boychuk, Gabriel Fontaine, and Olivier Galipeau leaving the club. However, they have bolstered their roster with the addition of experienced DEL professionals Andreas Eder and Markus Vikingstad.
Andreas Eder, the brother of the late Tobias Eder, who passed away from cancer last season, has taken his place in the Berlin Polar Bears' locker room. His addition, along with Vikingstad, is expected to provide a boost to the team's offensive capabilities.
Kai Wissmann, the team captain, emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and determination. "Our goal for the upcoming season is to win the last game," Wissmann stated. "We understand the challenges ahead, but we are ready to face them head-on."
The team's unity and familiarity with each other, according to Wissmann, should be a significant advantage in the new season. "We have played together for a while now, and that should help us in our quest for another championship," Wissmann added.
Coach Aubin also highlighted the shared experiences, both positive and heavy, among the team's players as a key factor in their success. "We have been through a lot together, and I believe that has made us stronger as a team," Aubin said.
The Berlin Polar Bears, as the record champion in the DEL, are approaching the new season with high expectations. They have the option to reissue three import licenses if needed, ensuring they have the necessary firepower to compete at the highest level.
With their fitness levels impressively high, according to Aubin, the Berlin Polar Bears are well-prepared for the grueling schedule that lies ahead. As they set their sights on a third consecutive DEL title, the team and their fans are eagerly awaiting the start of the new season.
In the spirit of securing a third consecutive DEL title, the Berlin Polar Bears have bolstered their roster with the addition of DEL professionals Andreas Eder and Markus Vikingstad, aiming to enhance their offensive capabilities, particularly with Andreas Eder replacing his late brother Tobias Eder in the team's locker room. Furthermore, the Berlin Polar Bears maintain high expectations for the new season, with their focus remaining on sports such as hockey and the National Hockey League (NHL), given their prowess and record champion status in the DEL.
