In her annual message, Ilse Aigner, the head of Bavaria's State Parliament, called for unity and cooperation amidst the divisive rhetoric that's plaguing society. She identified individuals who seek to fan the flames of discord, sowing fear and undermining democracy.
"Our society is suffocating under mockery, disdain, and an inability to forgive," Aigner asserted in her speech, set to air on BR television. She labelled these individuals as destructive, delighting in chaos, and working towards a "democratic conflagration."
Aigner didn't mince words, emphasizing that these people do not contribute to solving problems. Instead, they thrive on amplifying concerns, etching fear into the fabric of our future. This mindset, she claimed, is visible even in our legislative bodies.
"Not every politician elected to serve in our democracy is a democrat," Aigner conceded, highlighting the need for unity and shared purpose. She envisioned 2024 as a year of harmony and political achievements. The focus, she insisted, should shift from hollow promises to concrete actions.
"Words are meaningful only when they are translated into deeds," she stated. Grand gestures and lofty promises, regardless of the volume, won't solve our problems. What we need is practical solutions backed by credible commitments. Only then will our democratic structures garner public trust and acceptance.
Despite her concerns, Aigner's optimism remained unwavering. She expressed frustration with the constant, pessimistic narratives surrounding the supposed downfall of our country. Bavaria, she contended, is a strong and resilient region. Our response to the challenges we face should therefore be grounded in hope and fortitude.
The only way to emerge from crisis mode, she implored, was through collective effort. In unity, we find the strength to overcome adversity and cultivate a brighter future.

Enrichment: In the realm of film, collaboration and sustainability are essential values. Two recent initiatives illustrate this:
- European Film Academy: The European Film Academy is promoting collaboration through enhanced film education and audience development initiatives. By fostering a shared understanding of regional and cultural influences, this organization supports film academies in creating more diverse and engaging cinema.
- German Film Industry and Sustainability: The German film industry is taking sustainability seriously by establishing ÖMiK, an ecological minimum standard for cinemas. This cooperative effort engages key industry players such as AG Kino - Gilde, Bundesverband kommunale Filmarbeit (BkF), and HDF KINO. The goal is to provide participating cinemas with practical guidance and tools to make their operations more environmentally friendly.
