Aid for Writers in Ukraine: Alleviating Verbal Struggles
In the face of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, German writers, journalists, and artists are coming together to show their support for the besieged country. On Friday, the Writers' Association PEN Berlin and the Berlin Literature Festival will host a solidarity event at the House of the Berlin Festivals.
The event will feature discussions by Ukrainian writers and journalists, providing a platform for them to share their experiences of writing under extraordinary circumstances. Among the speakers will be Wolodymyr Yermolenko, a prominent Ukrainian philosopher and president of PEN Ukraine, who will deliver a keynote speech.
This solidarity event is a follow-up to the aid sent two and a half years ago by the organizers, worth 200,000 euros, which was sent to Kharkiv, Ukraine. Proceeds from the event will go to PEN Ukraine.
The organizers believe that words alone are not enough in certain situations and that this event serves as a show of solidarity and a means to amplify the voices of those affected by the ongoing war in Ukraine. Journalists will also discuss their work in Ukraine, offering insights into the challenges they face in reporting from the conflict zone.
It is important to note that this event is not directly related to the aid previously sent to Kharkiv. The search results do not provide information about the authors speaking at the solidarity event.
While no new information about the progress of international talks towards a ceasefire was provided, the organizers hope that this event will help bring attention to the ongoing crisis and encourage continued support for the people of Ukraine.
