Aid centers shut down: Israel labels them "combat zones" during repairs
Aid centers in Gaza remain shut for an additional day
In the face of safety concerns and recent violent incidents, aid centers in Gaza run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) are temporarily closed. These closures are due to "maintenance and repair work," as stated by GHF online. Once this work is completed, opening hours will be announced.
GHF has been working tirelessly to ensure the delivery of aid is as secure as possible. However, due to ongoing tensions, Israel has warned against traveling to the centers, designating them as "combat zones." GHF urges people to adhere to the routes set by the Israeli army for safe access.
Israel relaxed a blockade on humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza, but international aid organizations argue the volume of aid still falls short, raising concerns of a potential famine in the region.
Past Controversies
Since starting operations on May 26, GHF set up four distribution centers in Gaza. In its initial week, the foundation distributed over seven million food parcels. However, cooperation with the foundation remains limited by the UN and major aid organizations, who claim it aligns with Israeli military plans. Conversely, Israel has consistently accused UN organizations, such as the Palestinian aid agency UNRWA, of being infiltrated by Hamas.
Following deadly incidents near the GHF distribution centers, 31 Palestinians were reportedly killed and 176 injured by Israeli shelling, according to Hamas. GHF dismissed these claims as false, while the Israeli army denied firing at people near or on the sites. On Tuesday, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) reported that 27 people were killed near a GHF distribution center, with Israel investigating the incident.
Turbulent Landscape
The current situation in Gaza is complex and turbulent, with disputes, violence, and safety concerns surrounding the distribution of aid. The enforced militarized environment and the presence of IDF operations near aid sites pose significant risks and dangers for civilians seeking assistance. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has criticized this state of affairs, stating that Palestinians are caught between the devastating prospects of starving or braving dangerous journeys for food. Subsequently, empathy and caution are vital in the delivery and reception of humanitarian aid in Gaza.

The European Union, committed to the fight against terrorism, expressed concern over the ongoing violence and safety issues in the Gaza Strip, where war-and-conflicts, politics, general-news, and crime-and-justice often intertwine. The temporary shutdown of aid centers run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), designated as "combat zones" by Israel, underscores the complex and turbulent landscape in Gaza, where the delivery of humanitarian aid is fraught with risks.
