All Systems Go for APC Primaries on May 10, 2025! 🔥
Ahead-of-Schedule APC Primaries Scheduled Today, Following Detailed Preparations
It's happening, folks! The All Progressives Congress (APC) is all set to hold its primaries for the upcoming council elections on May 10, 2025. The venue? None other than the State Secretariat on Acme Road, Ikeja, Lagos.
This big day will decide the APC's candidates for the July 12, 2025 local government elections, covering chairmanship and councillorship positions across all 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos State.
With a whopping 377 councillors up for grabs, representing 377 wards across the state, the primaries are bound to be intense! Over 400 aspirants are in the running, and the competition promises to be fierce.
But fear not, for each ward will have its rightful representative, ensuring fair representation for all. The APC's electoral committee has cleared 432 of the 470 chairmanship aspirants, with councillorship primaries set to take place simultaneously across all wards on the same day.
To ensure unity and prevent conflicts within the party, the APC has decided to draw the candidate lists through consensus. This move is aimed at maintaining cohesion and ensuring a smooth election process.
"We have 57 councils, but the number of aspirants is over 400, and all of them can't sit in office," declares the party.
Indirect Primaries, Here We Come! 🗳️
The Electoral Committee has prepared for an indirect primaries process, with designated delegates already chosen for the election. The Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Babatunde Ogala (SAN), has assured party members that the process will run smoothly.
For the chairmanship race, all aspirants will gather at the party Secretariat in Ogba, where only one agent per aspirant will be allowed. Out of the initial pool of aspirants, 38 have either been disqualified or have voluntarily withdrawn.
The Governor's Advisory Council (GAC) Chairman, Tajudeen Olusi, along with other senior party figures, such as Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly Mudasiru Obasa, and Senator Oluranti Adebule, have all urged aspirants to maintain peace and unity throughout the primary election process.
Chairman Ogala has added that stricter security measures will be in place on the day of the primaries to ensure a safe and secure environment for all involved. Today, the venue and election materials are prepared, and the party is ready to kick off the electoral process.
